Afiya (عافية) translates to well-being — encompassing our physical, mental, and emotional health, along with protection from all forms of harm.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to regularly ask Allah (swt) for afiya in this life and the next, as it encompasses every need and blessing a person could ask for in both worlds.

Afiya protects us from hardships, illness, and even emotional or mental distress. Through the duaa, "اللهم إني أسألك العافية" (“Oh Allah, I ask You for well-being”), Allah (swt) can us grant us comfort, health, and contentment in this life — and the ultimate gift of Paradise in the next, inshallah

At The Afiya Corner, we aim to live out this Prophetic teaching by offering mentorship, resources, events, and classes — all rooted in Islamic principles and guided by insights into mental health and personal growth.

Understanding Afiya

At The Afiya Corner, our mission is to help Muslims overcome the mental and emotional barriers that keep them from living with purpose and deep connection — to Allah (swt), His Messenger ﷺ, the Quran, their loved ones, and themselves. By blending Islamic guidance with psychological understanding, we provide safe, transformative spaces where individuals can heal, grow, and thrive.

Our goal is to help you cultivate afiya — spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being — so you can flourish in this life while preparing for the next.

We envision an ummah that lives with confidence, purpose, and faith - where mental health and wellness are normalized, accessible, and deeply aligned with the teachings of Islam.

🧕🏽 About the Founder

Mayce Hassan is a licensed therapist, speaker, and mentor based in Illinois. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Xavier University and a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Loyola University Chicago.

Mayce has worked across all levels of care, including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient settings. She has extensive experience conducting individual, group, and family therapy sessions, supporting individuals of all ages through a wide range of mental health challenges. Additionally, she has years of dedicated service to the Muslim community, both professionally and as a volunteer and mentor at her local masjid — one of her favorite places.

Mayce’s journey and passion for wellness in the Muslim community began at sixteen, when she started volunteering with her local masjid’s junior high program. There, she witnessed the community’s emotional and spiritual needs and discovered her passion for supporting people both individually and in groups by integrating mental health with faith.

Since then, she has been committed to mentoring others to heal through Islam and helping them navigate life’s challenges in ways that are healthy, pleasing to Allah (swt), and aligned with building their Akhirah.

Mayce still practices in the field of therapy and is also the founder and speaker of the Balanced Program at her local masjid—a unique monthly program that explores life’s challenges through both Islamic and psychological perspectives. Beyond Balanced, she delivers lectures and facilitates workshops, classes, support groups, and trainings at various mosques, schools, and colleges. Additionally, she is an Islamic Studies teacher for high school girls.
